Art Tembé, a local art that lives on
Conception, Fabrication
Originally from Guyana and Suriname, the Bushinengé people, also known as “black maroons”, gave birth to Art Tembé in the 18th century.
Often expressed through painting and sculpture, this art exhibits interwoven and colourful motifs of African and Amerindian inspiration. The most common meaning is commitment and protection.
Franky AMETE is one of those artists who keeps this art alive. Our partner Signaux Guyane was looking for a range of street furniture to offer to local authorities. It was then that the desire was born to promote local culture through urban equipment, between tradition and modernity.
Signaux Guyane, ATECH and Franky AMETE worked together on this project.
ATECH carried out a specific laser cut on its range of SYNERGIE street furniture in painted steel to meet the demand.
Exhibited in Mr Franky AMETE’s gallery, the baskets, posts, barriers and benches are also at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine in Paris, from 21 May until 24 September 2022.
Art Tembé, a modern art that is blooming on Guyanese urban furniture, thanks to the know-how of ATECH.
